Patty Duke, Oscar winning US actress of film and television passed away recently at the age of 69 due to sepsis from a ruptured intestine. She is best known for essaying the role of Helen Keller in the 1963 movie, The Miracle Worker. She also garnered fame from own sitcom, The Patty Duke Show where she played “the identical twins”.

Being estranged from her father at the age of eight and due to her mother’s mental illness, Patty was put in the care of child talent manager, John and Ethel Ross.
Her real name was Anna Marie Duke, but Rosses changed it to Patty Duke. Rosses deceitfully took away Duke’s earnings up to the time she turned eighteen and subjected her to drugs as well.
She was a teen artist and the youngest Academy Award winner (16) for The Miracle Worker. Has also received three Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards and eleven Emmy Award nominations.
Along with her acting career, she also recorded six music albums and two hit songs during the 1960s.
A show about identical twins with different personalities was based on Duke’s own natural behavir, later diagnosed as bipolar disorder in 1982.
After 1982, she dedicated much of her time in advocating and educating the masses about mental health.
Duke married four times. Harry Falk (m. 1965; div. 1969), Michael Tell (m. 1970; annulled 1970), John Astin (m. 1972; div. 1985), Michael Pearce (m. 1986; her death 2016)
Patty Duke passed away on 29th March, 2016 at 1:20 a.m. at a hospital in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. She was living in Idaho with her fourth husband, Michael Pearce, for the last 25 years. The demise of this wonderful and talented actress is deeply mourned by all in the industry as she was also considered to be a very good friend.
